Percussion/Drumline

Percussion Coordinator - Jamey Kollar - jamey.kollar@cfisd.net

The percussion section is open to all percussion students currently registered for the Cypress Ranch High School Mustang Band. Placement for each individual member is based on that individuals' performance during auditions which are usually conducted during the first week of band camp. All students are placed in positions that would give the Mustang Band the best opportunity for success. We would love to be able to place everyone on their desired instrument however, the instrumentation required to field a balanced ensemble does not allow that to happen and students may be placed on alternative instruments. The percussion section includes both the battery percussion (marching percussion instruments snare, tenors, bass,) and the front ensemble (stationary percussion instruments positioned at the front of the field; marimba, xylophone, vibes, timpani, bells, rack, concert bass drum, accessories). Battery meets during 4th period and front ensemble meets during 5th period. During the spring semester all percussionists must maintain membership in the Wind Ensemble (4th period), Symphonic Winds (5th period), Symphonic Band (2nd period), or Concert Band (3rd period). The percussion section may compete as a separate ensemble, such as an indoor drumline or percussion ensemble, at the discretion of the directors. Membership carries the following responsibilities:

1.     Attendance at all rehearsals, sectionals, clinics, and performances.

2.     Attendance at summer drum camp (typically July).

3.     Enrollment in battery class (4th period) or front ensemble class (5th period) in the fall and Wind Ensemble (4th period), Symphonic Winds (5th period), Symphonic Band (2nd period) or Concert Band (3rd period) during the spring.

4.     Satisfactory performance of the materials assigned for performance and/or competition.

5.     Maintain academic eligibility.

6.     Abide by all Cypress Ranch Band Handbook policies.
