Jamey Kollar
A percussionist and educator from Houston, Texas, Mr. Jamey Kollar is beyond humbled and excited to be joining the staff at Cypress Ranch High School as an assistant director and percussion coordinator! Mr. Kollar is coming to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD from George Ranch High School in Richmond, TX, where he oversaw the full vertical percussion program from 6th-12th grades.. From 2015 to 2021, Mr. Kollar served as the Assistant Director of the Spirit of Houston Marching Band at the University of Houston, where he coordinated and arranged for the Spirit of Houston Drumline, as well as made logistical preparations for the University of Houston Band program. His ensembles have participated in UIL, BOA, WGI and TCGC events, and have earned consistent superior ratings, including numerous finalist performances, caption awards, and state championships, including 3 TCGC Scholastic World State Championships in 2015, 2018 and 2019 with the Pasadena Memorial HS Indoor Drumline.
A strong advocate for the promotion and performance of new music, Mr. Kollar keeps an active performance schedule, most notably as a percussionist with the Houston-based contemporary chamber music group Loop38. He was selected to be a performance fellow at the 2017 Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival in North Adams, MA, where he performed and studied alongside young professional musicians and composers from around the world. In addition, he attended the 2012 and 2013 Sō Percussion Summer Institute, a multi-week intensive percussion chamber music festival held annually on the campus of Princeton University.
Mr. Kollar is a graduate of the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston, earning his Masters of Music in Percussion Performance degree in the spring of 2012. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Moores School in 2010. Over the course of his collegiate and post-collegiate career, Mr. Kollar has been extremely fortunate to have studied with such talented teachers and mentors as Dr. Blake Wilkins, Alec Warren, David Bertman, Lamar Burkhalter, David Cossin, as well as the members of Sō Percussion.
Professional affiliations include membership in the Texas Music Educators Association, the Percussive Arts Society, the Houston Professional Musicians Association, and Pi Kappa Lambda. He is a proud educator/artist for Tama/Bergerault Marching and Concert Percussion, and Innovative Percussion sticks and mallets.
